The Fieffe Foundation for Haiti (FF4H)
"Ask not what your country can do for you,ask what you can do for your country. These words of the late President John F. Kennedy still ring true today, especially to me, a native Haitian residing in the United States who is deeply concerned by the dire situation of my homeland. I try to stay connected to my relatives, my community, and culture by visiting my hometown, La Vallee de Bainet, yearly. However, during my most recent trip, I realized that my hometown did not escape the problems that plague our rural communities.
One of these problems is the migration of our youth from the rural areas to the overcrowded city of Port-au-Prince. Our youth has steadily been relocating to the city because of the subpar living conditions and deplorable lack of opportunities in the countryside. Such a void further dooms the rural areas, leaving no one to maintain the agriculture, contribute to food production or to sustain the rural culture. What can we do stop the outflow and steer the younger generation toward developing and improving La Vallee de Bainet and its surrounding areas?
Heeding JFK's advice, We created the Fieffe Foundation for Haiti (FF4H) on July 11, 2004. This non-profit organization aims to assist the residents of the area of La Vallee de Bainet, 3eme section Rural de Bainet, and to improve the quality of life in the area. We will work to provide alternatives to the young people, thereby decreasing the outflow of the area's most valuable asset: its human resources. Furthermore, La Vallee de Bainet could produce enough food to sustain it population. However, the increasing urbanization of the rural communities is threatening the region's agricultural development. The Fieffe Foundation for Haiti aims to improve the provision of health care services:
- Allocate potable drinking water
- Implement job training
- Explore alternative modes of transportation
- Promote alphabetization and develop new standards of education
- Encourage agricultural endeavors (i.e.,implement irrigation, soil preservation and promote forestation.)
The Fieffe Foundation for Haiti Project is made possible Thanks to contributions from individuals like you.
